Well, I ran 6 Heavens and a Forsaken Hub yesterday evening, in my VNI, after the patch, and didn't have any problem with drones getting attacked by rats..... ( I also did not get any escalation,..... .. bad luck, i guess)

Thera is good to "live" in. If you want to roam and explore all of Eve. Try docking as less as possible (I learned that the hard way, yesterday.....) It's a huge system, find yourself a couple of safe spots, and you should be fine
